Holy Jesus there are many breeds of spatulas.

5 Feb

Do you know how many breeds of dogs there are?  Its a lot. Combine it with the half and half dog breeds like the morkie, the goldendoodle and the puggle. Now think of how many dog breeds there are. There exists the same number of spatula breeds.

We are preparing to register in the coming weeks. Never one to do anything with out thoroughly researching every possibility and combination of possibilities, I started reading registry details at a variety of stores. Picking which stores to register at was easy.

Then I decided I should get an idea of what we are going to want for the kitchen. Registering for kitchen utensils might be the most exciting part of the wedding for Zac and I. We are food people. And we both like to cook. A lot. He likes to invent new spice rubs and marinades. I like to experiment with baked goods and unique cupcake recipes. We could quickly list for you 10 unusual and wierdo kitchen gadgets that we desire. In the unusual and wierdo categories we know exactly what we are doing. So I started looking into the more basic categories of kitchen tools. Spatulas.

I was blind-sided. I thought I was entering the kiddy pool and I stepped right into the deep end of kitchen gadgetry. Spatulas are available in nylon, silicone, cherry wood, bambo, stainless steel, cast-iron and an undefined “soft-grip” material. They are slotted, curved, tapered and reinforced. Some are dubbed “flippers” and others “turners.” And these are just the pure bred spatulas. Don’t overlook the half-breeds with stainless steel handles and nylon coated flipping surfaces or wooden handles with silicone bottoms.

Rarely do I find myself overwhelmed by information. I’m more the sit-down-and-highlight-the-important-features type. But not this time. This time, I’m giving up.

I’m just going to call my mommy. I’ve seen her with spatulas before. She’ll know what to do.

Coming soon to a wedding website near you… Maggie & Zac’s Spatula Registry.

Later Alligators – Mags

PS – If you happen to be or know a spatula expert, I would appreciate guidance. The same holds true for breeds of pots and pans. Someone point me to the bar ware… I know a good margarita glass when I see one.

Holy Crap! I had no idea that it was so complicated. I’ve only ever seen the metal variety or those hard black plastic ones that the eggs always seem to stick to but never want to come off of.

You mean our college-quality, all-purpose spatula? It hardly even qualifies as a spatula in comparison. I like the shiny metal ones but will they scratch up our pans? And I like the Paula Dean ones but I strongly dislike Paula Dean.

I set things on fire… this is probably no use to you.
however… my bf is a chef. Ask Ryan, he knows stuff.

I love multiple spatulas…for different purposes of course. I have a soft (maybe silicone (?)) one for baking and scraping batter from bowls. I have a flipper (turner?) kind, but I hate it! I can’t find one that works well at all. Let me know if you figure out a good one. And I agree with Zac – the eggs always stick.
